Community Gateway
Back to GatewayFrom the first moments in the cortile to the final conversations of the evening, the event reflected something deeper than a festival—it embodied the spirit of who we are as a school.

International Day is not simply a showcase of food, flags, and performances. It is a living expression of our identity as a global community. At St. Stephen’s, where students and families represent countries and cultures from around the world, this celebration creates space for stories to be shared, traditions to be honored, and connections to be strengthened.

The success of the evening was the result of extraordinary dedication and collaboration. Under the leadership of Monica Barden, Director of School Culture and Student Engagement, and with the generous partnership of parents Angie G. and Amber H., the event came together with vision, care, and remarkable attention to detail. Their coordination transformed an idea into an atmosphere that felt vibrant, inclusive, and genuinely joyful.
Events of this scale do not happen by chance. They require persistence, organization, and a deep commitment to community-building. What unfolded last Friday was the product of thoughtful planning and collective effort—proof that when families and school leaders work together, something truly special emerges.

The cortile was filled not only with cultural pride, but with belonging. Students moved from table to table discovering new cuisines, learning about traditions beyond their own, and celebrating the diversity that defines our school. Parents connected across languages and backgrounds. Faculty joined in not as observers, but as participants in a shared experience.
Moments like these matter.
International Day strengthens the social fabric of our school. It fosters curiosity, empathy, and appreciation for difference. It reminds students that diversity is not something abstract—it is present in the classmates beside them, the families around them, and the stories that shape our collective experience.

Most importantly, it reinforces a simple but powerful truth: community is built intentionally.
As we look back on the images from the evening—the laughter, the performances, the shared meals—they serve as more than memories. They are reminders of what is possible when we gather with openness, pride, and joy.
International Day was not just a celebration of where we come from. It was a celebration of who we are together.
