Going Green
01 Jan 2011
Picture a gorgeous, sunny, warm Saturday morning. Now, picture a setting to go along with it - the place you'd want to be on such a gorgeous sunny, warm Saturday morning. If your first, second or even third choice (we're not picky) was a park, then you should probably consider joining S.U.N.! S.U.N. (formally known as Students United for Nature) is the school environmental club, a place where us students have the opportunity to take control and help out the planet in any way possible. We organize various activities, including seven ecological days dedicated to our planet which we like to call our green week, environmental films about global warming and other issues, and PARK CLEAN-UPS, where we put on any old rag on a Saturday morning, push up our sleeves and set out on a rescue mission to free Rome's parks of as much litter as possible. These pictures are a few from our last park clean-up, where we marched down (or up, depending where you're coming from) to the Parco Caffarella to do a little tidying up. We started off by picking up the paper and plastic found in the bushes at the entrance as a warm-up, and then moved on to the big challenge - a small and very dirty stream, from which we managed to pull out various items, including a pianola, a couple ceramic tiles and, as gran finale, two very large tires. By lunch time, although we felt tired, hungry and incredibly dirty, the feeling that remained when we got home (AFTER some very long showers) was satisfaction. So if any of this sounds at all appealing - join S.U.N.!
